How To: Jailbreak The A4 iPhone Or iPod Touch Running The Official iOS 6.1 Firmware

How To: Jailbreak The A4 iPhone Or iPod Touch Running The Official iOS 6.1 Firmware

Most people are desperately anticipating the release of the Untethered iOS 6.1 Jailbreak for devices like the iPhone 5, but for those of you who have a pre-A5 device like the iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4th generation, you will be glad to know you can temporarily Jailbreak tethered. Personally, if I was you, I would wait until the Evad3rs release the Untethered iOS 6.1 Jailbreak on Sunday, but hey, if you can’t live without your Jailbreak and want to be on the latest firmware version I understand.
Remember, I will reiterate this again, this is a tethered Jailbreak, which means you will not be able to turn your A4 device off unless it is connected to a computer. The method for Jailbreaking A4 iOS devices on iOS 6.1 is the same as with previous betas, you simply pointRedSn0w to iOS 6.0 while you are running iOS 6.1 and Voilà!
Supported Devices:
  • iPhone 4 CDMA
  • iPhone 4 GSM
  • iPhone 3GS (Untethered Jailbreak if old-bootrom)
  • iPod Touch 4G
Supported Operating Systems:
  • Windows
  • Mac OS X
The screenshots in this particular tutorial show RedSn0w running on Windows, but it works just as well on Mac OS X and essentially looks the same. For a more in-depth overview of RedSn0w and all of its features you can visit our official RedSn0w section.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1

Step 1: The first thing you will need to do is update your iOS device to iOS 6.1. You can download iOS 6.1 by clicking here. You will also need to download RedSn0w 0.9.15b3 for Windows or Mac OS X using the download mirror below or through the iJailbreak Downloads Section. Lastly, download the iOS 6 firmware for the device you are Jailbreaking, which can be found in the downloads section.
Download RedSn0w 0.9.15b3 (Windows)
Download RedSn0w 0.9.15b3 (Mac OS X)
Step 2: Once you have downloaded RedSn0w 0.9.15b3 you will need to extract it. On Mac OS X this should be done automatically, but one Windows you can do this by right clicking on the zip file and then clicking the extract to folder option.

When RedSn0w has been extracted find the redsn0w file. On Windows you will need to right click on it and then click the Run as administrator option. On Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lionand above you will need to hold down the control button on your keyboard, click the RedSn0w app and then the Open option to get past Gatekeeper.

Step 3: With RedSn0w up and running you will need to simply click the Extras button.

Step 4: Next click the Select IPSW button and select the applicable iOS 6 firmware file for your device. After RedSn0w successfully recognizes the firmware you will need to click the Back button, followed by the Jailbreak button.

Step 5: Once you click the Jailbreak button you will be presented a screen with preparation instructions for entering DFU mode. Read through these instructions, power off your iPhone or iPod Touch if you haven’t already, and then click the Next button.

Once you click the Next button you will need to execute the steps shown on-screen, which are:
  • Hold down Power (corner) button for 5 seconds.
  • Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (bottom center) button along with the Power button for 10 seconds.
  • Without releasing the home button, stop holding down the power button for up to 15 seconds.
How To Jailbreak A4 iPhone / iPod Touch Tethered On iOS 6.1
Step 6: After you have entered DFU mode, RedSn0w will begin processing the iOS 6 firmware.
How To Jailbreak A4 iPhone / iPod Touch Tethered On iOS 6.1
When the firmware has been processed you will come to a screen with a few options for your Jailbreak. Ensure that the “Install Cydia” option is checked, and then click the Next button to begin the actual Jailbreaking process.
How To Jailbreak A4 iPhone / iPod Touch Tethered On iOS 6.1
Step 7: RedSn0w will now begin jailbreaking your iPhone or iPod Touch. DO NOT interrupt or use the computer during this time. When the iOS device is finished being jailbroken it will reboot into a non-Jailbroken state (or in some cases will not make it past the Apple logo). This is because you have a tethered Jailbreak and will need to boot it using RedSn0w.
Step 8: Launch RedSn0w again if you exited out of it, click the Extras button, click the Select IPSW button, browse for your device’s iOS 6 firmware again and then click the Just Boot button. You will now need to put the iPhone or iPod Touch into DFU mode again. Once your iOS device is in DFU mode it will boot into a Jailbroken state.
Your pre-A5 iPhone or iPod Touch should now be Jailbroken running iOS 6.1 tethered. Remember to keep your eyes on iJailbreak for the next few days for up-to-date information on the Untethered iOS 6.1 Jailbreak from the Evad3rs. In the mean time, let us know if you have any issues in the comments section below.

Will Your Favourite Cydia Tweaks Be Compatible With iOS 6.1 And The iPhone 5?

Will Your Favourite Cydia Tweaks Be Compatible With iOS 6.1 And The iPhone 5?

A question that I have seen reoccurring across our social networking feeds is will my existing Cydia tweaks be compatible with iOS 6.1 and the iPhone 5. Unfortunately this is a pretty vague question as every Cydia tweak has its own dependencies and developers who may or may not be actively working their tweaks. For the most part however, I can confirm that most, if not all of the popular Cydia tweaks have already been updated for iOS 6.0.x. You have to realize that tweak developers have had a long time to test out their tweaks on A4 devices tethered to bring compatibility and some of them probably had early access to the A5 developer iOS 6.0.x Jailbreak.
It wouldn’t make sense for developers not to update their tweaks, as they actually make quite a bit of money off tweak sales. The biggest time for developers to make money in the Jailbreaking scene is right after a Jailbreak is released, so you can be assured it is at their top priority to ensure compatibility.
Cydia Tweak Compatibility With iOS 6.1 And iPhone 5
What about the iPhone 5 you ask? Well, again the answer to the previous question could more-or-less apply to the iPhone 5, but Saurik recently answered the question on a Reddit Q&A thread that goes into better detail…
Usually new firmware causes more serious problems than new hardware; in the case of a slightly-taller-but-still-largely-the-same-thing screen, most packages in Cydia don’t really have normal “app” UIs: they are extensions that modify functionality of other things, and so aren’t affected. The main things that come to mind are things like biteSMS, WinterBoard, iFile, and Cydia itself, all of which are trivial modifications to take up the new vertical height (in fact, for at least WinterBoard, iFile, and Cydia, I believe it is just “throw a new Default.png in the folder and you’re good to go”, as they all do programmatic layout).
So, there you have it. There will of course be some tweaks that will not be compatible with iOS 6.1 and the iPhone 5, but the numbers should be actually lower than in past cases this time around. The owner of BigBoss did chime in today on Twitter however, that the tweaks that will likely need the most updating for the iPhone 5 are “home screen, lock screen and switcher tweaks, and perhaps a selection of themes.”
Cydia
As I said previously however, the turn around time on these updates should be pretty quick and you should only really encounter troubles with lesser-known tweaks than popular ones. Hopefully that answers a majority of your compatibility questions, if not, sound off in the comments section below.

iOS 6 Jailbreak Untethered Device Compatibility And Expected Release Date

iOS 6 Jailbreak Untethered Device Compatibility And Expected Release Date

The jailbreak community has to be commended for exercising an unprecedented level of patience while the relevant individuals and development teams have been working hard on finding the necessary components to release an iOS 6 untethered jailbreak. Over the last week we have witness the formation of the Evad3rs jailbreak team, and announcements that we can pretty much expect the jailbreak to drop almost instantly when Apple releases iOS 6.1 to the public. But today brings even more good news.
When Apple dropped the fifth beta of iOS 6.1, the leader of the iPhone Dev-Team and Evad3r’s team member MuscleNerd described the release as being on the "home stretch". We can only assume that the team is extremely confident that everything is set and in place for an almost immediate release when Apple lift the beta tag from iOS 6.1 and makes it freely available to the public through iTunes and over-the-air updates. Hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later.

iPhone 5 Jailbreak
MuscleNerd has also been answering specific queries via his personal Twitter feed, letting us know that the first public tweet from the Evad3rs Twitter account will be extremely important and will more than likely be to announce the immediate release of the latest untethered jailbreak that we have all been waiting for. In terms of supported hardware and device compatibility, he has also confirmed that all iOS devices (including the likes of iPhone 5, iPad mini, iPad 4 etc.) capable of running iOS 6.1 firmware will be compatible, with the exception of the hard to crack Apple TV 3.
2
Yes, you heard it right. That’s a whopping twenty-two devices that will be supported by the first Evad3r’s release and will also include the Apple TV 2 if the 6.1 firmware release for it is out in time. MuscleNerd also took the opportunity to announce that anyone following fake Evad3r’s Twitter accounts would likely "miss the excitement this week", hinting towards a possible release sometime this week, soon after Apple makes final version of iOS 6.1 public.
1
Here’s a full list of devices that will be supported by 6.1 untether:
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPad 4
  • iPad 3
  • iPad 2
  • iPad mini
  • iPod touch 4
  • iPod touch 5
Device(s) that may be supported:
  • Apple TV 2
Device(s) that wont be supported:
  • Apple TV 3
So there we have it. A total of twenty-two supported devices that will include the latest Apple hardware as well as potentially liberating the second-gen Apple TV. Third-generation Apple TV owners will have to wait that little bit longer until a suitable exploit can be found, but the rest of the jailbreak community should hopefully have something to look forward to by the end of this week.
And like always, those of you who have Pre-A5 devices such as the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4 can tether-jailbreak using either Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze. For instructions, you can always follow our detailed jailbreak iOS 6 and jailbreak 6.0.1 guides posted on the site.

Unlock Galaxy Note 2 Bootloader With Casual, A Simple And Handy Tool For Windows And Linux [VIDEO]

Unlock Galaxy Note 2 Bootloader With Casual, A Simple And Handy Tool For Windows And Linux [VIDEO]

If you are a Galaxy Note II and had it unlocked, you might have been disappointed when Verizon sneaked a new bootloader last week and re-locked it. Thankfully, a new solution is available now through a new exploit and a slight update for the user-friendly CASUAL tool.
This new exploit was discovered by developer Ralekdev, it is a completely different exploit that gets around Verizon’s patch. CASUAL is a user-friendly tool for Windows and Linux; it will auto-flash the exploit on Linux, while Windows users will have to resort to Odin in order to apply it, which is an easy process regardless. After a few reboots, your Galaxy Note II will launch into recovery mode, making it incredibly easy to make backups and, of course, flash the device. It is quite easy.
Galaxy Note II
CASUAL itself has received some minor updates as well that add to its mission of providing a user-friendly way to root different Android devices, such as the Droid RAZR and of course the Galaxy Note II. These changes include a built-in “kill switch”, which can be useful in a lot of circumstances. There is also automatic updating bundled in, both for scripts and the application itself: should users attempt to run an old version of a script, this one will be replaced with the newest revision before any work is done on the device. This can be a lifesaver under certain circumstances.
kajnk3
If you are a fan of Samsung’s phablet, unlocking it won’t cause much harm with this easy tool. Your warranty will obviously be voided, yet if you are interested in customizing your software, the benefits greatly outweigh the risks. There is nothing stopping Verizon from patching the bootloader once again as easily as they did before, however there will always be another workaround. It’s a permanent cat and mouse game.
Whether you are on Linux or Windows, you can download everything you need online to unlock your Galaxy Note II. If you are hoping for Mac support in this release, you will be disappointed, since it isn’t present quite just yet. If you haven’t done it already, make sure you download and install the latest version of Java. Happy jailbreaking!

Download iOS 6.1 Beta 5 For iPhone And iPad [Devs Only]

Download iOS 6.1 Beta 5 For iPhone And iPad [Devs Only]

Before a new version of iOS is released by Apple to the public, it goes through several betas, in which developers get the chance to download, assess, and note of any significant bugs or issues. This system attempts to ensure the end-user release is as smooth as possible, and while many of you will have been using iOS 6.x, work has been going on behind the scenes to prepare iOS 6.1. Today, a new Beta 5 build is now ready for download for developers only.
Every software release, whether it be specific to iOS, Android, Windows Phone or whatever, tends to come with a measure of caveats. Although – barring the obvious exception of Apple Maps – iOS 6 has been a fairly incident-free affair, there is still plenty of room for improvement, and that is the rationale behind releasing iOS 6.1 so soon.
ios-61-2 copywm
The improvement of Maps is an ongoing thing, so it goes without saying that, when iOS 6.1 finally becomes ready via OTA for public use, the stock navigation app will be much improved on what’s currently available. But the Cupertino company has plenty of other tricks up its sleeve, with notable improvements to Siri, Passbook, and the usual deluge of bug fixes.
iOS 6.1 Beta 5 can only be downloaded by registered developers at the moment, but with so many betas behind us now, it’s only a matter of time before a final public release is available for everybody to download. If you don’t want to wait, and are generally intrigued by beta releases of Apple software, I strongly advise you to sign up to the Developer program. It costs $99 per year, and gives you access not only to iOS software, but OS X, iTunes and more.
So, those of you who are indeed part of the program, head over to the iOS Dev Center and grab the latest version. Beta 4 of iOS 6.1 is set to expire on January 28th, so its important to update to Beta 5 now.

You Can Jailbreak iOS 6.1 Beta 5 On A4 And Below Devices Using Redsn0w

You Can Jailbreak iOS 6.1 Beta 5 On A4 And Below Devices Using Redsn0w

The majority of iPhone users who have been patiently waiting for the upcoming jailbreak solution were dealt a little bit of a blow by Apple today. The individual members of the newly formed Evad3rs jailbreak team have been publicly begging Apple to push out a final release of iOS 6.1 so that they can apply the final touches to the untethered jailbreak, but instead Apple replied with yet another beta of iOS 6.1. A minor set-back for most, but the ever-present silver lining is that those who have access to the fifth beta of iOS 6.1 can also enjoy a tethered jailbreak on older A4 devices through the use of Redsn0w.
A lot of fuss has been made about the fact that the latest beta seed doesn’t actually appear to be a true beta in the normal understanding of the word relating to Apple releases. The firmware activates without the need for developer registration, it doesn’t have any expiry date, and the build ID is that of a final build, meaning that this could actually end up being the final build of iOS 6.1 and the exact same piece of software that the public will see going live in the very near future. Essentially it is like a GM seed, but without the official name-tag. A4 and below (iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4) device owners still have the ability to liberate their devices with this build through the ever-reliable Redsn0w tool.
ios 61 pwned copy
The ability to perform a tethered jailbreak on these devices may not be a huge comfort to those who have been patiently tolerating a stock iOS experience on one of Apple’s newer pieces of hardware, but the reality is that there is still a lot of users who make use of A4 powered hardware daily. The iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS and the fourth-generation iPod touch are all powered by Apple’s A4 and below processors and therefore capable of being liberated from Apple’s walled garden through the use of the iPhone Dev-Team’s famous software, thanks to the fantastic and longstanding Limera1n exploit.
As always, it is worth noting that the iOS 6.1 beta 5 jailbreak on the aforementioned devices is of a tethered nature. This means that whenever the device is rebooted or entirely powered down and back on it will need to be connected to the computer and injected with the exploit once again through Redsn0w to ensure that it is in a jailbroken state. We covered a full tutorial on how to jailbreak iOS 6.1 beta when first beta was released. The instructions for jailbreaking 6.1 beta 5 are exactly the same. Download iOS 6.1 beta 5, and simply follow our guide posted here to jailbreak iOS 6.1 beta 5 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4.

Those who have newer hardware, such as the iPhone 5 or iPad mini, shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for Apple to drop the public release of iOS 6.1 so we can see the Evad3rs go to work.
