Apple Releases The iOS 6.0.2 Firmware For The iPhone 5 And iPad Mini To Fix A Wi-Fi Bug, Download Now [Direct Links]

Yesterday Apple seeded iOS 6.1 beta 4 to developers, but it looks like Apple wants to sneak one more firmware version in before the official release of iOS 6.1. You see, Apple has just released the iOS 6.0.2 firmware for the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini that apparently “fixes a bug that could impact Wi-Fi.”
It is likely that this Wi-Fi bug that Apple is talking about has to do with connecting to the new and emerging 5GHz Wi-Fi band. I recently updated my home network to use the brand new AC standard that will likely make rounds in 2013 (to accomplish this two Asus RT-AC66U units were used). The new AC Wi-Fi spectrum uses a 5GHz band that I often found very unreliable when connecting to on multiple Apple products, including my iPhone 5.
As Apple released a Mac firmware update yesterday regarding compatibility connecting to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network, I think it is extremely plausible that this iOS firmware update targets the same thing. If not, at least you should have more reliable Wi-Fi in all circumstances.
You can take a look at the dry changelog of the iOS 6.0.2 firmware below.

As mentioned previously, the iOS 6.0.2 firmware update is only for the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini. If you would like to update to iOS 6.0.2, the easiest way to do so would be to do a software update. To do this launch the Settings app, go into the General tab and then the Software update tab. Once the iOS 6.0.2 firmware update has been pushed to your region, you will be prompt to update. Keep in mind that if you receive an error along the lines of “An error occurred while checking for a software update” then you will simply need to try again later or use on of the alternative methods for updating explained below.
You can of course also download iOS 6.0.2 to your computer using one of the direct links shown below or through iTunes once you plug your iPhone 5 or iPad Mini in via USB.
